Help fight the Mega Quarry!

Tonight in Honeywood,  Forest Floor, 2009 was sold to a lovely couple named Keddy and Eric from Singhampton, Ontario.  We talked a fair bit about their choices to live in the area and the thoughts behind my work.  The sale was one of many at "The View from Here" exhibition that continues tomorrow from 11 - 5 at the Honeywood community centre as part of the Artists Against the Mega Quarry movement.  There is nearly 100 pieces of art up for grabs which more often than not capture the beautiful landscapes that nourish both our bodies and souls.  Take a beautiful Sunday drive out into the country to support this amazing cause by supporting the artists who donate their time, energy, and sales to the cause.  To see more of this series of work you can visit my Global Landscape gallery or visit Marlow Gallery on Dunlop street where three pieces are currently on exhibit.

Look What I Made Tonight!

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!  Felt vessels made two different ways.  Now what will I do with these?  I want to add ears and tails to them, maybe even patches of fur.  Hee hee hee hee hee.....  Sarah is going to run a needle felting workshop next month so I will definitely be heading to that one as well.  Stop by the studio tomorrow as I frantically work on my paper map for the Freaks and Geeks show coming up at the DIY Arts Collective, opening April 28th. 

Buy Art and Support the Fight Against the Mega Quarry

This weekend there is a really cool art exhibit and sale happening in Honeywood Ontario to help raise funds to fight the Mega Quarry slotted to take up their valuable farmland in the area.  I have donated four of my works to this cause as this is what my work is about!  Another cool thing about exhibiting in this show is that my work will be hanging very near to the work of Edward Burtynsky, a photographer I have been following for awhile due to his documentation of oil spills / fields.  Support artists and an important cause with one purchase this weekend!

Can't Wait for Felting Tomorrow

Beyond being able to spend the day in the studio tomorrow working on my paper maps, I am heading to a cool workshop tomorrow night at the Space on Toronto Street to try my hand at felting with Sarah Leonard.  I told Sarah that I was really looking forward to making vessels, why I don't know, but I do know that there is part of me crying out to make 3d work.

Vacuum-ed, 2012

Last week and today I luckily checked my Junk Box just in case something ended up there that wasn't supposed to.  And there they were, emails from two galleries who I had never heard from before.  Today it was an interesting little operation up in Midland called the Claustro Gallery.  Run by Carol Currie and her husband, a world record holder, they have just finished having a show with Rod Prouse.  They seem to really have a great understanding of marketing and building clients for their artists, so I am really psyched to be showing my work with them in June.  Although this adds to my stress of getting shows ready for July, it really served in getting me to map out my whole year and production schedule.  It has also motivated me to finish some larger figurative pieces and perhaps even print a few more of my images on plexi.  The larger pieces will also   help me have a few more options to submit for the RBC painting competition deadline in May.  I guess "the busier the better" sometimes rings true.

Today was filled with much excitement as I worked hard to rally artist studios and galleries in Creemore to jump on board the Simcoe Day Trip section of the Toronto Art Map, only to find out that all of the spots may already be filled.  Let's hope they can squeeze us in.  On a great note, I received notification that two of my Fabricated Landscapes have been juried into a show to be held at the Orillia Museum.  I have to say all of those submission fees really get to me, but when you get into a show, the investment seems worth it.  Investments I am still waiting on are the Queen Street West Art Crawl and the Toronto Outdoor Show.   Just another reminder, my next workshop is this Saturday from 12 - 4:30: Magnificent Mark Making. http://www.facebook.com/events/268575626561613/ Email me at jp@jillpricestudios.ca for a registration sheet.

Magnificent Mark Making is this Saturday!

My next workshop is coming up this Saturday from 12 - 4:30.  Plan on rain and take the day off from everything else to join me for an experimental afternoon of guttural mark making.  There is bound to be amazing work created and some engaging conversation!

Deny the world of digital art and dive back into the world of visceral and expressionistic mark making. Playing with markers, pastels, paint graphite and more, you will engage in a series of exercises that will help you creative luscious layers, textures, and techniques within your own art practice.
